Sweating is a natural part of the body’s working mechanism that has more of a purpose other than making our shirts wet. However, many people regard sweating as something of a disgraceful aspect and they work ever so carefully in order for them to avoid doing so in any manner.

They stay away from anything hot and cloister around air-conditioned places, walking a distance more than a block is deemed unreasonable because the exertion would prompt sweating and they ride vehicles wherever they go just to avoid having to put themselves on a pace. But more often than not, the reason for such a notion is misunderstanding and not having enough information regarding something as integral to humans.

First of all, sweating is very cleansing for your body. As the body attempts to revert your temperature to normal by releasing sweat, it releases water, oil and other impurities which does your complexion no good.

That is why, when you sweat for a healthy amount of time such as when exercising, you feel lighter and cleaner. That is also why, when you leave sweat for a long time, you feel icky and uncomfortable. When that happens, it is advisable that you take a bath.

The benefits of sweating are as already mentioned above, with washing out impurities. When you sweat, you breathe faster, your heart works more, your circulation improves and your metabolism accelerates. This is all in an effort to resume your normal body temperature.

Because your circulation is increased during sweating, many of the toxins and impurities are able to exit your body by way of your open skin pores. This is a good reason to exercise to the point of sweating or to sit in a steam room regularly. You could also have softer, smoother skin when sweating provided you wash off properly afterwards.

Now when it comes to weight loss, sweating as been heavily scrutinized over the years regarding its effects on shedding the pounds. Arguably, when you sweat, you do lose weight and to a certain extent, you do visibly reduce in size. However, the weight you lose is mostly the water in your body which can be replenished when you rehydrate yourself. Then again, in the process of sweating while exercising, you are also burning up calories. So the more you encourage your body to sweat, the more calories are burned and the more effective the activity is overall. But this is not to say that the amount of sweating is what counts, regardless of the activity. Just because the amount of sweat your produce while sitting inside the sauna room and working out is equal, the same cannot be said for the amount of calories burned.

Finally, sweating can also alleviate that pesky part of life called stress. When you sweat, your body’s muscles are warmed up by humidity and heat. This helps to release the stress and fatigue brought on by muscle tension. The light, clean feeling it provides also loosens you up when you are wound tight as spring. This is why most people find relief when they workout so much that they are drenched in sweat and their whole body is not longer as rigid.

In conclusion, sweating is not something to be ashamed of nor should it be something to be avoided at all costs. Sure there is a time and place to sweat as you may argue, but perspiring a little on a hot day or because you are nervous is not a criminal offense. So give yourself a little break and understand that when you sweat, your body is trying to help you in more ways than one.
